5 CELEB BEAUTY TRENDS (That Work in Real Life!)

How to pull off the cool looks you see on the red carpet and runaways – without employing a full-time glam squad.

1. Brights With Brights

Choose a bright piece of clothing or accessory, then “stick to one feature on your face – eyes or lips”, says NYC makeup artist Tina Turnbow. We love pairing a look-at-me pink lip with yellow, electric blue or, yes, red.

2. A High Topknot

It’s ballerina look without the tutu! Balance this femme style with unfrilly clothes. To do: Apply a smoother like redken Velvet Gelatine 07 Cushioning Blow-Dry Gel ($17) to wet hair; blow-dry. Do a high ponytail and twist into a bun; pin. A cream like Rusk Gleam Lusterizing Crème ($13) adds shine and tames flyaways.

3. A wavy Faux Bob

Go chicly short the red-carpet way. It’s easier than it looks, and you’ll wake up with all of your hair the next morning. First, make spirals all over with a curling iron, then rub antifrizz serum in your hands and run them through your curls. Make a side part, then roll and tuck your hair under, pinning as you go. Hairspray!

4. Matte Skin and Red Lips

If you don’t go too pale, it’ll look glam, not goth. To get your mouth right: Use a pencil that matches your lipstick to carefully line your lips; then fill them in. Slick on a coat of lipstick, blot and repeat. Dust your face with a matte powder – a Kabuki brush gives full coverage. Add black mascara.

5. A Touch of Metallic

Shiny objects get lots of attention, so use sparkle strategically. Just dazzle up small areas. Do silver smoky eyes, a metal mani or both. For the look gone light, try a clear glitter polish or a silvery blue shadow as eyeliner.
